CURRICULUM

Years 7, 8 & 9 (Key Stage 3)

During the first three years at Chingford Foundation School, pupils study all subjects of the National Curriculum - English, Mathematics, Science, French, History, Geography and Religious Studies, Information Technology (I.T.) is taught as a separate subject in Years 7-9. Emphasis is placed on keyboard skills, simple word processing, spreadsheets and I.T. applications.

From Year 8, most pupils in Band E1E, E1W & E2E are introduced to a second Modern Foreign Language, which is Spanish. Pupils in Band E2W, L1E, L1W, L2E and L2W continue to study French as their only modern foreign language.

A programme of Personal Health and Social Education is delivered in Years 7, 8 & 9.

  Years 10 & 11 (Key Stage 4)

Pupils follow a Common Core Curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education, Physical Education and Careers and Personal Education. They may then select from a guided option scheme, which includes History, Geography, Music, Art, Business Education and Information Systems, Modern Foreign Languages, Design Technology, Drama, Media Studies and Dance. Vocational courses can also be followed leading to a dual award GCSE in Health & Social Care and Art. All pupils have access to the same range of options and the full range of grades.

The details of Key Stage 4 provision form the basis of a detailed Year 9 Option Choice Programme.

 

Information Technology continues to be taught and applied across the curriculum in most subjects, while Careers Advice, Citizenship, Health and Sex Education are taught in the Personal Education Programme.

Work Experience is an important part of Year 10 and all pupils are expected to participate.
