CONSTRUCTION SKILLS (Foundation Award) Introduction |
This is a 2-year, 1 day per week programme based at Epping Forest College. Learners follow a City & Guilds and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Foundation skills award. Pupils develop a great deal of “hands-on” experience and may be able to proceed to the Intermediate level when they complete the course. Male and female learners are welcome. Aims of the course: |
What will I study? |
|
How will I be taught? |
| Most classes will be practical and will take place in the Construction area. Some sessions will involve classroom based work – this helps learners understand what they are doing. |
| How will I be assessed? |
| Most assessment is based on the practical work. This means that the learner will pass that part of the course once she or he has become content. Pupils will complete log books to show their progress towards targets. There will be some written tests. Pupils will build up a portfolio of evidence based on course work books and evidence from the tutor. |
| Future Education and Employment |
| This is a modular course in construction skills. It will take a number of years to become fully qualified and learners may progress to an intermediate level when they have finished. Many learners progress onto apprenticeships in the construction industry, with associated opportunities in site management and surveying. Future careers in other aspects of construction and civil engineering will also be available. |
| How can I do well in this subject? |
Learners need to come prepared to work hard. It is a potentially dangerous environment so learners need to act in a mature and responsible manner. Learners will enjoy the course if they accept that it is not all “hands-on” and the class based work is necessary. Some of the work will be outside during the winter and learners need to accept that this is a part of the work they are interested in doing. Contact: Entry to this course is by interview at via the school by the 14-16 Co-ordinator at Epping Forest College. |
